Itisclearfromtheliteraturereviewedabovethatmetacognitiveawareness,withitscrucialroleofplanning,monitoring,andevaluation,isofgreatvalueinfacilitatinglisteningprocessandthusachievingimprovedcomprehension.Nevertheless,ithasalwaysbeenafieldwherefewChineseEFLresearchershaveattemptedtoexploreforinstructionalpurposes.Tobeprecise,theeffectsofmetacognitivelisteningstrategytrainingonChineseEFLlearners'listeningcomprehensionarerarelystudiedandlittleisyetknownabouttherelationshipbetweenthelearners'metacognitivelisteningawarenessandtheirlisteningcomprehension.
Thereviewhasalsomanifestedthatincidentalvocabularyacquisitionisamajorsourceofvocabularygainsandincidentalvocabularyacquisitionthroughlistening,inadditiontoreading,isanotherpromisingsourceofvocabularyacquisition.However,ithasreceivedlessattentionfromrelativeresearchers.ThisisespeciallytrueinaChinesecontext,forfewattemptsweremadetoinvestigateChineselearners'EFLvocabularyacquisitionfromlistening,neitherwasthereresearchinvestigatingtheeffectsofdifferentlisteningconditionsonincidentalvocabularyacquisition.Whatismore,therelationshipbetweenChineselearners'EFLvocabularyacquisitionandtheirmetacognitiveawarenessfromlisteningtaskswasalmostneverstudied.Inthissense,thepresentstudyattemptstotryanewapproachtofillingthegapinthisresearcharea.
